When Ayia Napa was just a little sleepy fishing village, Yiannis’ grandfather, a fisherman himself, would strike up a barbecue and cook the day’s catch for a lucky few fellow fisherman … Slowly it grew into a business and 63 years later the same family are still cooking the day’s catch, for the same fishermen, or more like their sons. Their experience is without doubt the recipe to their success !!!
Situated just to the right of Ayia Napa Harbour, a little more serene, dining out front, inside, under the huge covered terrace or out back, shaded under umbrellas, overlooking the med … it really is a perfect place to enjoy seafood delights and there’s a huge pristine lawn and a play area for the kids with swings and things.
Live Greek Music
Every Saturday, at 8.30 pm Markos hosts a Greek Night, with live music and Greek dancers who’ll show you the moves and you can join in. The finale is this guy who puts about 30 glasses on his head and dances … Just amazing !
On the Menu
In the kitchen 4 chefs who have worked together for years creating a varied selection of appetizers … fresh Fish or Lobster Soup, Seafood Salad, Dips, and maybe Avocado & Shrimps, or Mussels a’la Markos or my fav the Drunken Scallops in fresh cream and Ouzo.
On a busy day there’s fish arriving fresh throughout the day, local fishermen bringing their day’s catch, so there’s always a selection you can buy by the kilo or just a 250 gsm portion and I almost forgot the Markos Fish Plate; Sea Bream, Kalamari, King Prawns, Mussels and Octopus Mmm !!!
Meze & Platters
As this is one of Cyprus’ finest fish tavernas we normally go for the wonderful Fish Meze and it’s nice to have the option of a Mini Fish Meze. Alternatively they serve a lovely Sea Food Platter, Mediterranean Platter or a Harbour Platter to mention but a few … of course it’s Cyprus so you can get a Mixed Meze or for meat lovers the Terra Platter; Grilled Halloumi, Greek Sausage, Pork Kebab, Chicken Kebab, Sheftalia, Lamb Chops, Panseta finished off with Fruit of the Seven Seas.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more special wait ’til you try the Octopus Stiffado, sautéed in onions, vinegar and tomato sauce, it’s a taste bud explosion, you could always spoil yourself with a Fish Tower, a little more western Europe with a Seafood Paella … The King Prawn Volcano, sautéed in garlic, Brandy, wine, and fresh cream, definitely one of my favs just has to be the Lobster Venus Desire, omg ! oh and for the meat lovers go for the Markos Special Steak a blend of onions, brandy, wine, mushrooms, asparagus, cheese, fresh cream and a hint of English Mustard.
The menu is extensive to say the least, everything from home made Pizza, chargrilled Fillet Steaks, Lamb Chops, Pastas, including an awesome Carbonara, a delicious Moussaka, snacks like Pitta Sandwiches, Jacket Potatoes, Burgers, or create you own Omelette with up to 3 ingredients.
Even the litten’s have their own menu with 12 choices including, Kebabs, Burgers, Pizzas, or even a Mini Steak.
Behind the Bar
All your fav spirits by the shot or the bottle, over 50 wines from Cyprus, including Petritis and Moschofilero Boutari, from Greece, Italy & Portugal, Cocktails, with or without alcohol, and they blend a delicious Milkshake.
