Farmers Traditional Cypriot Tavern, Ayia Napa, Established 2015

You couldn’t put this excellent traditional Cypriot Tavern any more central, sitting proud on the T, looking west up Nissi Avenue, its all arches, that excel at sunset, and wood, rough cut, barn wheels, and wicker baskets and lots of farm memorabilia gathered from a family that has been in agriculture for seven generations, the ambiance sort of reminiscent of a Traditional Cypriot Farmhouse of many years past.

The cuisine is naturally traditional, and most of the ingredients in the kitchen come from their families farms, assuring only the freshest produce, oh I just want to say this place is that good, it gets really busy, so you might need to grab a drink at the bar, soak up the atmosphere and wait a bit, or make sure you book first, either way, the family and staff make you very welcome, get you a drink really quickly and tbh, a better team is hard to find … I love their tagline “We Serve Smiles & Positive Energy’!

Awesome Crew
Joining the team in 2015, Matre’ d Andreas has been in the restaurant industry since he was 8 years old, working in Coombe Abbey Hotel in Coventry, while Head Chef Christos Pascalli is fully qualified and a member of the Association of Cyprus Chefs, he heads up a busy team, pulling out all the stops, to provide a variety of traditional Cypriot Dishes, nothing frozen, everything freshly made, from the hob to the traditional clay ovens and Charcoal Grills.

Naturally, you’ll find things like Moussaka, freshly made in individual clay pots, amazing Stiffado, cubes of Beef marinated in vinegar and onions just like Yia Yia used to make, delicious Afelia, or Tavva … My fav is the Lamb Kleftico, a whole Lamb Shank cooked for at least 6 hours over a bed of cinders in a sealed clay oven, so tender the meat just falls off the bone and the Cyprus Potatoes omg!, of course as in many Cypriot kitchens, starters are a cool selection of fresh chilled salads, served with breads and a few homemade dips, the Tahini, a garlic lovers heaven!

The Traditional Meze is one of the best I’ve tasted, about 16 Seasonal Dishes, served nice and slowly, in four courses, a terrific way to try many local dishes in one go, from salads and dips to authentic dishes and delicious char grills with vegetables and hand cut chips of course, but make sure you go hungry!

Steaks & Grills
Famed for their awesome Steaks, New Zealand Sirloin, Prime Cut T-Bone and sooo tender Fillets … The ever-popular Gorgeous Platters for 2, with many cool mix-it-up ideas … The Seafood Platter a fish lovers dream and the Mixed Grill the same for meat lovers and of course the traditional Cyprus Combo … with a few more unique ideas for Platters coming this Spring …

Seafood & Kids
They’ve always got Fresh Fish and Seafood, the Seabream I tried was cooked to perfection … or there’s Fresh Calamari, Octopus, and the occasional surprise catch … oh almost forgot the huge Isaac Pork Chop, Pork or Chicken Souvlakki, and an absolutely amazing Cyprus Burger, not forgetting their delicious Cyprus Sweets to round off your meal, hmm the Chocolate Ecstasy is to die for 😉 … oh and I love the Kids Menu, once they’ve chosen they can colour them in, brilliant!

Behind the Bar
All the wines are Cypriot, mainly from Paphos and Limassol, carefully selected including several award-winning varieties as Cyprus is now producing some of the worlds finest wines at very good value topping at about €26 … There’s a very well stocked bar with bottled beers and a few exotic cocktails, and do try the Farmers Special … Hic!
