A New Decade!
It’s January 2020, omg! Where did that decade go? … So I just want to start by saying a very Happy New Year to all of you that read my articles and blogs … somehow I think a lot of you enjoy, and that inspires me … so as we say a huge goodbye to the teens, we gotta give a big warm welcome to the ‘Twenteens’ 😉 Ha! Getting old is old stuff lol … and naturally we wish you a healthy and prosperous start to the new decade, I wonder where it’s gonna take us?
Topping Up the Tan
Did I mention it’s January, and btw, it’s my favourite month 😉 … coz, my fav fruit, Cypriot Oranges are in season, and when it’s not raining, the air is so fresh and clear, you know, no heat haze, so I’ll be topping up the tan at breakfast outback, and I love it when you can see the tops of the mountains, so vividly, and coz everything is so fresh ‘n green. Oh, it also means that summer is coming, coz the days are getting longer by about a minute a day and it’s gonna get warmer and ho-hum, I reckon we’ve got the best climate in the world! btw did anyone else miss autumn, it seemed to go from summer to winter just like that?
The winter is our rainy season, we normally only get 35 days a year so bring it on I say, we need it! … let’s hope we don’t beat last years 100-year record, when it rained 24 days in January, couldn’t possibly? Could it? … anyway, winter also allows us to catch up with mates who work 24/7 through a long summer season … Time to get together, strike up a BBQ or gather around an open fire and talk about what happened this year and how we’re gonna do it better this year … and of course meet down the pub to watch the footie, rugby, and F1 … Heres a quick find a place to watch the Live Sports ..
Don’t forget it’s skiing season up on the north face of Troodos Mountains, until about March and if you snow ski in the morning and waterski in the sea in the afternoon, send me the photos … btw the accommodation up there is well cool, and the apres-ski a very well kept secret! The mountains, of course, are in their element at this time of the year, it’s another world up there, so do take the kids to see the snow, waterfalls, rivers and quaint villages, and make sure you wrap up well coz it gets cold up there … For more info www.skicyprus.com …
As we are apparently targeting 5,000,000 visitors a year in the early twenties we should see our tourist seasons extending either end, I wonder if it’ll be year-round by the end of the twenties? we certainly need to rely on private enterprise and on that note with things on the up its a great time to invest in Cyprus, check out our Property section … Naturally, a few more marinas, a few more golf courses would be good, on the east coast too please, even a nice Approach Course would be cool … We’ll need more indoor facilities too … spas, leisure complexes, boutique hotels, oh, and what about a nice big amusement park? and if you wanna chat about your ideas give us a buzz …
Natural & Wild
The Zoo is open in Paphos and The Camel Park in Mazados, near Larnaca, The Cyprus Maze, places like Wow Amusement Park too. Communities like Soul in The Sun organising soul and reggae parties, and the night clubs, swinging towards the Cypriot market, and more and more summer seasonal workers who decided to stay for the winter, and boy do they know how to party !!!
After Paphos’ stint as hosts of The European Capital of Culture in 2017, I think Cyprus has finally got the cultural bug and we’ll continue to see an increasing swing towards the modern world and it’s natural and cultural inevitabilities … Things like the sculpture park and the various street art festivals that seem to be a regular thing and some of the art is just awesome! … Another good way to see Cyprus is with one of our 4 Wheel Adventures who’ll take you to places you’d never get too … Click here for a more extensive cultural guide by the C.T.O …
Coast to Coast
Now, I’m already missing the summer buzz, but I do love the tranquillity on those fresh sunny coastal walks, with those waves, and off sea breezes and spray, they’re nothing but invigorating … likewise a stroll around one of our many harbours or fishing shelters … oh, and if you think it was party time in the summer, get a’load of winter in Cyprus!
There’s an ever-increasing number of restaurants staying open all year to provide traditional Cypriot cuisine and just about every other cuisine you can think of, there’s plenty of bars and I can’t believe how many new stylie cafes have opened, serving proper coffee, with lovely open fires and those tall gas heaters, many providing live entertainment, and clubby nights.
Keep an eye open for things like live gigs at Savino Live in Larnaca, Rock Tepee in Limassol, Koursaros Bar in Protaras, Asylum in Napa and many other bars around Cyprus. The Motocross season is touring the island and the Jet Ski Championships, are a must when pretty much all the local watersports crews fight it out against each other … They’re great days out! …
It’s also shopping season, culminating with the February sales, which are starting earlier every year, I think they started on Boxing Day this year … Ladies, check the stylish Brouska and guys, BrouskaBlue in Paphos, Larnaca and Nicosia or London Clothing Company, who have shops all over Cyprus … and not forgetting Y2K in Napa we recommend some of Cyprus’ leading Jewellers, some we have worked closely with for almost 30 years.
Did you know, you can holiday in Cyprus, with accommodation, and get a tattoo for less money than holidaying at home … check out our recommended tattooists here …
I just want to close by saying a big Happy New Year to all our sponsors, that help make this network the best guide to Cyprus! I hope You’ll follow us through 2020 and beyond!
And really finally
If I can leave you with just one tip for January, a new month, in a new year in a new decade … make sure you do at least one thing new, you’ve never done before!
Twenty, Twenty is gonna be the best year ever!
