Fish House Restaurant on Harbour, Ayia Napa, Established 1955

I popped in to catch up with Peter and Panicos when I found out the Fish  House Restaurant were opening on 5th June, it’s a huge place, and the tables spread more spaciously, cool disposable table covers, and they’ve extended the bamboo pergola out back, so you can enjoy your fresh seafood or flambe grilled meats, overlooking the harbour and Cape Greco, or the panoramic view of the med, and actually, it’s one of my favourite places watch the sunset … the new look is refreshing to say the least, and all the management and crew are naturally following the appropriate Health & Hygiene Protocols, and as usual it was busy …

Today’s Catch
This spectacular eaterie has been in the family since 1955, when Ayia Napa was just a little sleepy fishing village, and Yiannis’ grandfather, a fisherman himself, would strike up a barbecue and cook the day’s catch for a lucky few fellow fisherman … Slowly it grew into a business, and 65 years later the same family are still cooking the day’s catch, for the same fishermen, and now their sons and grandsons.

The place had a total revamp in 2019 but I’ve known Panicos for years, remembering the old days at Makedonas Restaurant at the top of the square and Le Belly Pork just around the corner and his experience is without doubt the recipe to their success …

Inside Out
Situated just to the right of Ayia Napa Harbour, a little more serene, relax out front in modern chilled ambience, or under the huge covered terrace or out back, overlooking the med … it really is a perfect place to enjoy premium seafood delights and there’s a huge pristine lawn and a play area for the kids with swings, trampolines, tunnels, slides and things … Check out their promo Video here

On the Menu
In the kitchen 4 of the best chefs in Cyprus, working together they’re an awesome team, creating a varied selection of hot or cold appetisers … fresh Fish Soup, Seafood Salads, Dip platters, maybe Avocado & Prawn Cocktail, or the Mussels with Garlic are to die for … but my fav the the fresh Oysters and the Stuffed Smoked Salmon … Mmm! … Here’s a quick link to their Menu

All Day
On a busy day there’s fresh fish arriving throughout the day, delivered by local fishermen bringing their day’s catch, so there’s always a selection you can buy by the kilo or just a 250 gm portion and you really must try everyone’s favourite, their Seafood Platters; Sea Bream, grilled octopus, grilled calamari, fried baby calamari, 4 King Prawns, Mussels with creamy garlic sauce, Marida or smelt fried Mmm !!!

Meze & Platters
As this is one of Cyprus’ finest fish tavernas we normally go for the wonderful Fish Meze and it’s nice to have the option of a Mini Fish Meze.  Alternatively they serve a lovely Sea Food Platter, Mediterranean Platter or a Aegean Platter to mention but a few … of course it’s Cyprus so you can get a Mixed Meze or for meat lovers the Terra Platter; Grilled Halloumi, Greek Sausage, Pork Kebab, Chicken Kebab, Sheftalia, Lamb Chops, Panseta finished off with Fruit of the Seven Seas.

House Specialities
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more special wait ’til you try the Beef Stiffado, sautéed in onions, slow cooked in red wine and vinegar, it’s a taste bud explosion, the traditional Lamb Kleftiko is slow cooked in traditional clay ovens for over 6 hours and it just falls off the bone, delicious … oh and btw, the Moussaka is Yia Yia’s recipe!

Top of the List
You could always spoil yourself with a Grilled Whole Lobster, served with sautéed vegetables, salad, rise, chips and olive oil & lemon sauce, omg!  oh, and for the meat lovers go for the Firehouse Fillet Steak cooked to perfection served straight or with a choice of sauces!

The menu is extensive to say the least, everything from home made Pizza, char-grilled Fillet Steaks, Lamb Chops, Pastas, including an awesome Carbonara, little snacks like Pitta Sandwiches, Jacket Potatoes, Burgers, or create you own Omelette!

You’re spoilt for choice with some unique dishes like the Mediterranean Spaghetti, with onion, garlic, zucchini, pepper, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, basil pesto sauce, and a note of fresh cream … or there’s Ratatouille with vegetables, Cannelloni with Spinach and Ricotta cheese, or my fav the Quinoa croquettes

Kids Menu
Even the litten’s have their own menu with 5 choices including, Burgers, Pizzas, Spaghetti Bolognese, or Homemade chicken nuggets, or homemade fish bites … they’ll even size down a kebab or a mini steak.

You really must save some space for one of their delicious homemade desserts … The Lebanese Mahalebi is wonderful … Creme Brulee, very special … but my fav the Tiramisou … much as the Chocolate Lava Cake is my choice when I just pop in for a drink or fresh ground coffee to watch the sunset …

Behind the Bar
All your fav spirits by the shot or the bottle, over 50 wines from Cyprus, including Petritis and Moschofilero Boutari, from Greece, Italy & Portugal, Cocktails, mixed with or without alcohol, and they blend a delicious Milkshake.
