Pasta Kai Alla Bistro, Paralimni, Established 2020

Quite Apt
The name was enough to grab my attention, and once I got in touch and found out my very good friend Serge was behind the opening of the newest bistro in the centre of Paralimni, I just knew it was gonna be a cool place and I wasn’t wrong.  Pasta Ki Alla is exactly what it says it is … Pasta & More, sort of in the spirit of a Bistro you’ll find down cobble stoned alleys and town squares in France, Italy or Belgium.

The Setting
Perfectly situated right down to the ambience of the setting in the delectable courtyard of the 13th Century Ayia Anna Church, with the two Ayios Georgeous churches creating a landscape backdrop, right in the heart of Paralimni, just wonderful.

Obvious
I was so looking forward to a nice coffee with Serge, and hoped my good friend Chris of Kota, Ayia Napa fame would join us; as I found out his input here was invaluable, well, if anyone knows hospitality it’s him.  Serge immediately offered me a fresh Lavazza Italian coffee, the cappuccino was perfect, and I asked him to tell me all about his new eatery.  My first question was why the name? Much as I already knew the answer … read on …

Around the World
Serge from Belgium, is a qualified scuba diving instructor, with a wealth of hospitality experience, saying that he was raised to think for himself.  Explaining, Serge said “as a kid, the result of a Woodstock hiccup, I was brought up by my retired grandparents, who were in travel around the world mood, so I travelled around the world with them” … wow!

Hospitality
Serge studied Tourism & Marketing at University in Canada, managing hotels and resorts in Egypt, Spain and Thailand.  He said “it’s family cuisine, so here you’ll eat pasta just like you had at your yia yia’s and more” … continuing; “It’s Breakfast, Brunch & Dinner … Dine In or Take Away or Delivery, with a seasonal menu that’ll probably change every 3 or 4 weeks”, so I suppose I’ll just have to keep going back! … any excuse!

Passion
Intrigued, I asked Serge to tell me more about the menu, he responded; “in the kitchen, we have a team with well over 20 years experience in Italian cuisine, their input to the menu was more than welcomed, so too their love for their work and their passion to provide quality, healthy cuisine”.  He continued, “we always ask what our clients want: healthy, veggie, or vegan, and all dishes are adjustable”… Nice touch!

Italian
Serge told me the idea is Italian cuisine with hints of the Mediterranean … I checked out the menu and I really must make a visit in the morning coz some of the breakfasts sound delicious.  The Piatto Sano, yoghurt, honey, muesli, nuts and seasonal fruits probably my choice, much as the Friatta, omelette, bacon, onion, fresh basil, sun dried tomatoes and grilled cherry tomatoes with white baguette sounds very tempting … I think the Calazione, with 2 fried eggs, Parma ham, cherry tomatoes, cheese, sausage, toasted bread sounds irresistible 😉

Brunch
The Fig & Honey Salad sounds delicious, a mix of Rucola, Figs, peaches, cherry tomatoes, parmesan cheese, nuts and Italian honey dressing, but today I tried the Polpette, meatballs, cheddar cheese, buffalo mozzarella cheese, capers, olives, raisins, tomato marinara and bistro sauce …  But, I think the De Parma, will tempt me back again soon …

Pasta Fresca
Their speciality is Pasta … I just can’t wait to try their Carbonara, or their piece de ‘resistance has to be the Ravioli, home cooked, with fresh pasta topped with their speciality Alfredo sauce Omg!!! … oh, and the Pesto is Fresh and Homemade with an old traditional recipe from Tuscany, Italy.

Desserts
Naturally, if you don’t save room for afters, you’ll have to go back just for dessert which are homemade by the awesome Eviania and Eleni, a favourite in the area for twenty years … the Special Biscuits adorable … and I can’t wait to try the Panna Cotta and the Tiramisu, I’ve heard it’s to die for!

Coffee Time
It’s a perfect place to sit in the afternoon sun, enjoying a fresh ground Lavazza Italian coffee with a Bombolino, the Italian Doughnut Mmm … There’s a magazine rack, backgammon sets of course, and free wifi, with fragrant herbs on every table.  The Bites include Garlic Bread with Cheese or Anti Pasti; the kids have their own menu too and it’s an idyllic location for a few photos … or just a glass of wine with like minded people! Hmm!

Behind the Bar
Talented barmen will serve all your favourite drinks, including some exquisite, carefully selected Italian Wines, and trust me, this cava is awesome! … but just wait ’til you taste their cocktails … Naturally, all the classics but their signature cocktails are a dream, try the Al Capone, a blend of Brockmans Gin, grapefruit juice, mango, Orgeat syrup, fresh lime and tonic, and just as tempting the Godfather, a mix of spiced rum, Mustif, Tears Lemon, raspberry and pink soda … Mmm, I guess I might as well try both, amongst the many other choices … oh. and the Prosseco with strawberry’s, vanilla, a surprise, hmm?, and brown sugar, too curious to resist? .. but I went for a Mojito, and I didn’t regret it!
